Meet the Crew

Mark Anderson:

I am a 20 year Veteran of the Navy. I started my diving adventure late in life! I completed my certification dives Key Largo on January 1, 2023. Despite a rocky start, my passion for diving has grown exponentially from recreational diver, to Instructor to Extended Range Full Cave Diving! It’s an addiction that I wish I would have started a lot sooner in life! In January of 2025, we made the mistake of going to The Blue Grotto in Florida to complete my Deep Diving Certification. At 102’ down in the Cavern, I immediately fell in love with the thought of becoming Cave Certified!  A year later, we were in Mexico, in the middle of the jungle, slipping below the earth in cave!

Favorite Dives: Sistema Minotauro (Mexico), Padre Nuestro Cavern (DR), Valhalla Missile Silo (Texas)

Favorite Local Dive: Lime Lake (Spring Arbor). There is a trampoline, swim-throughs,  a deer to hunt,  old pilings from the excavating and the “remains” of an infamous leader of the International Brotherhood of Teamsters.

Goals: To spark the interest in others that I have found in diving. Every body of water we pass makes me wonder – what’s under there?? Suit up and let’s find out!

Kim Kohls-Anderson:

I completed my open water certification in 2003 here in Michigan in a shop that no longer exists.  I instantly fell in love with diving and the giant sea turtles that live in Hawaii.  I had always wanted to become a scuba instructor one day because I wanted to share my love of diving.  In July 2025, Mark and I were blessed with the opportunity to travel to Utila Honduras to complete our instructor certification with Tank'd.  The instructors there are amazing and truly love sharing their immense knowledge of diving. My husband instantly fell in love with cave diving while we were in Florida.  I not so much lol .. I had more of a healthy fear and a curiosity.  However, our amazing instructor Gerry from Dive 48 instantly created a love for cave diving that I didn't know I had.  I am certain we will be back down for more cave diving in Mexico.  And yes, my husband will look up every lake, pond, river (and pothole in Michigan) we pass to see if it is diveable.

We opened our dive shop in December and had to move to our current location at the end of January.  A pipe broke in the building and flooded our original location.  I am certain mother nature was trying hard to give us an indoor pool.  We currently are the only SSI dive shop in the area.  While we might be pocket sized, we do have our own changing room and a variety of gear and classes to choose from.  We intentionally keep our class sizes small to ensure individualized attention.

Favorite dives:

Molokini Crater (Hawaii)

Sistema Minotauro (Mexico)

St. George Wreck (Bayahibe, Dominican Republic)

Valhalla Missile Silo (Texas) — There is not much to see here. It is a large concrete tube with debris on the bottom. But the fact that I dove in what used to be a real missle silo is the coolest thing I have ever done.

 Goals:

personal — become tech diver certified

professional — become an Instructor Trainer

(this requires that I complete 150 certifications — so come on down and help a girl out and discover your love of diving)
